2025 ASC Student Supercomputer Challenge (ASC25)

Call for Participation!

Dear New and Returning Friends of ASC:

The ASC Committee is excited to announce the official launch of ASC25! We warmly invite college students and educators from around the globe to participate in the world’s largest and most competitive supercomputing hackathon.

ASC25: Important Dates and Details

Nov. 21, 2024 - Jan. 5, 2025
  • A confirmation letter with the Team Account number and Password will be sent to the Team Advisor upon successful registration.
Preliminary
Competition
Jan. 6, 2025 - Feb. 21, 2025
  • Each team is required to submit a proposal that includes their results and application code optimization, along with their Team Account number. The ASC Evaluation Committee will evaluate all preliminary proposals and select the top finalists based on merit.
Final
Competition
May 10-14, 2025 Qinghai University, China

The Finalists will design and build their clusters on-site, run HPC benchmarks, optimize applications, and present their results to the ASC Evaluation Committee. Here’s what to expect:

  • Benchmark Test: Perform HPC benchmarks on the designed cluster.
  • Application Tasks: Tweak and tune several defined applications with on-site assistance provided by ASC Evaluation Committee experts.
  • e Prize Task: Tweak and optimize a specially selected application for this challenge.
  • Presentation: Showcase and present your results to the ASC Evaluation Committee.

Basic Rules for ASC25 Participation
  • Universities are encouraged to participate in ASC25 with multiple teams.
  • Only one team per university will advance to the finals.
  • Each team consists of 5 enthusiastic undergraduates and 1 dedicated advisor
Important Notes
  • All deadlines are at 24:00 PM (UTC/GMT+08:00).
  • Vendor sponsors will provide computing platforms for finalists to build their clusters.
  • Teams can express their intent to participate before the registration deadline by completing the required information on the sign-up table, and finalize team members when submitting the preliminary proposal.
  • Students are eligible to compete on an ASC team as long as they have not completed four full-time years of study by the time the final competition teams are selected.

    Given to the runner-up team.

    Acknowledges outstanding collaborative efforts in group tasks.

    Honors exceptional achievement in a specific application optimization task.
  • The Highest Linpack
    Recognizes the team achieving the highest performance in the LINPACK benchmark.
  • Application Innovation
    Celebrates innovative approaches in application optimization.
  • Most Popular Team
    This award is determined through public voting, recognizing the team that garners the highest support from the audience.
  • The First Class Prize
    Awarded to teams demonstrating outstanding performance across various tasks.
  • The Second Class Prize
    Given to the runner-up teams demonstrating good performance across various tasks.
